Changing Your Home And Garden

I have always loved the idea of going through my home and making changes to my home and garden, but things aren't always as simple as they seem. About six months ago, I realized that I needed to do something to make some significant changes to my home, because the entire space had grown dated and unsightly. It was a lot of stress to figure out what I should do and how I could make powerful changes, but after working hard to prioritize my needs, things started to come together. This blog is all about changing your home and garden in a way that works for your budget and lifestyle.

Remodeling Your Kitchen? 4 Types Of Wood Cabinets You Can Choose From

If you are remodeling your kitchen part of this is choosing the cabinets. If you like wood cabinets, when you start shopping all the choices of wood available can be daunting. To help you below is four different types of wood cabinets you will find on the market, so you can make the choice of what you would like best in your kitchen.

1. Cherry

You will instantly notice cherry cabinets because they have beautiful red undertones. These cabinets can vary in color, however. For example, some cherry cabinets are white with red undertones, while others are light to dark brown. The finish is smooth, and the grain is not as prominent as in other types of woods. This makes putting a finish on the cabinets much easier than if the wood grain was not even.

Cherry cabinets look best in an elegant or modern kitchen.

2. Oak

Oak cabinets are available in white, brown, tan, and reddish. You will see streaks of black, yellow, or green in the wood. These colors are mineral deposits and makes the wood look unique. Oak is durable and will not scratch easily. Oak is also widely available, which makes this type of wood less expensive than other types of wood cabinets.

Oak cabinets look best in rustic or country kitchens.

3. Maple

Maple cabinets are generally white to a creamy white with occasional reddish tones. The finish is smooth and uniform as the grain pattern is subtle. Maple can be stained easily to look like more expensive wood, such as cherry. Maple can also be painted with no problems if you want to change the look of the cabinets in the future.

Maple cabinets go well in any type of kitchen décor.

4. Hickory

Hickory cabinets are made of the sapwood and heartwood part of the tree and colors range from a light tan to a dark brown. To bring out the grains and knots in hickory, you can apply a stain to this wood easily. Hickory is a hardwood, which makes these cabinets durable and will last for many years.

Hickory cabinets look great in almost any type of kitchen, depending on the color you choose. For example, a darker brown would look best in a more modern kitchen while a tanner color would look best in a rustic type kitchen.

Talk with a kraftmaid cabinets maker in your area about these different types of woods. They can show you sample cabinets to help you make your choice. The cabinet maker can also answer any questions you may have.
