Changing Your Home And Garden

I have always loved the idea of going through my home and making changes to my home and garden, but things aren't always as simple as they seem. About six months ago, I realized that I needed to do something to make some significant changes to my home, because the entire space had grown dated and unsightly. It was a lot of stress to figure out what I should do and how I could make powerful changes, but after working hard to prioritize my needs, things started to come together. This blog is all about changing your home and garden in a way that works for your budget and lifestyle.

Tips To Update Your Yard With A Concrete Slab Installation

Concrete is a great material for you to install on your property to provide durable support and an upgraded surface for your vehicles, tools, and activities. Before you mix up the concrete and add it onto your worksite, it is pretty important that you make sure all the preparation and proper processes are followed for a successful slab that will last you many years. Here are some recommendations for you to successfully install a new concrete slab in your yard.

Order and Arrange For Delivery in Advance

When you have planned to install a concrete slab on your property, you need to look at the weather and find some days where the weather is going to be dry, then call to arrange the concrete to be delivered. You will also need to make sure they have room in their schedule available to fulfill your order. Calculate how much concrete you need and let them know the amount, which should be in cubic yards.

You can also inform the ready mix supplier of the purpose behind your concrete slab and they can recommend the proper slump the mixture should have and any additives you might need. For example, if you are pouring concrete during fall weather that might be colder, they can prepare the mixture for the colder temperatures. Otherwise, for hot temperatures, they can add a bit more water to the mix to help with proper cure time in the heat. On the day of your delivery order, the ready mix concrete supplier will be able to prepare your concrete order and deliver it to your home where they can pour it into your forms.

Choose and Prepare a Sturdy Sub-Base Foundation

Before you can receive your concrete order, you will need to prepare the site properly. Make sure the soil on the site has been compacted and contains well-draining materials. Soil that contains clay will not be a good foundation for your concrete because it won't allow moisture to drain properly below the concrete, resulting in cracks, and swelling. A great sub-base foundation can be made of compressed angular gravel or sand.

No matter the material you select for your sub-base foundation, make sure it is compacted to eliminate any air pockets and it is completely level to ensure your concrete slab is level and all the same thickness. And make sure you provide sufficient space to pour the concrete slab to the desired thickness, whether it is four, five, or six inches in depth.
